Tracking muscle activity is an essential part of rehabilitation and fitness. Let's consider the example of someone recovering from knee surgery. To ensure proper healing, they need to do certain exercises, and they need to do them correctly. Typically, a physiotherapist or trainer provides feedback and ensures that the person is doing the exercises right. However, there's also a need for a method that can objectively track muscle health and progress over time. The same need exists for people going to the gym. They need a way to track the effectiveness of their workouts and ensure they are doing the exercises correctly.
In the current context, there has yet to be any general wearable product that can help in tracking muscle movements and health. While specialized solutions do exist, they are intermittent and expensive and only available to professional athletes or for use in research labs. This leaves out a large number of people who could benefit from such a device, including those recovering from injuries or undergoing rehabilitation, and everyday gym-goers.
We believe the solution lies in a wearable device that incorporates sensors and a powerful algorithm running on a server. Thanks to advances in sensor technology, it's now possible to make lightweight devices that can accurately measure motion and other key parameters. These sensors can now accurately sense acceleration, angular velocity, and magnetic rate vectors. EMG and NIRS sensors have also been used to gain data on more complex and micro muscle parameters. These data points combined with the usual health markers including heart and respiration rate can provide an exhaustive information set for the creation of a robust analysis platform.
In the past, all of this required bulky, and expensive equipment that could only be used in a laboratory environment. But, now, with the right technology, we can create a wearable device that could be used by anyone, anytime and anywhere.
I believe that the combination of sensor technology and advanced algorithms can transform how we monitor and analyze human movement. This can lead to better insights about our bodies, muscles, and the impact of our exercise routines. With this knowledge, we can optimize our workouts, prevent injuries, and improve overall health and well-being.
Imagine a person recovering from a leg injury. They have limited mobility and are working with a physical therapist to regain their range of motion and strength. The wearable device could provide real-time feedback on the patient's progress, showing how much force they're using, how their muscles are responding, and how their range of motion is improving.
I'm excited about the future of wearable technology, and I believe it has the potential to revolutionize the way we track and improve our muscle health on a daily basis. With the right technology, we can gain deeper insights into our bodies and take a more proactive approach to our health and wellness.
